Nathan Smith

Fiddle, Voice, Guitar

Styles: folk, bluegrass, traditional (Appalachian, Québécois, Swedish, French, Celtic)

Languages: English, French

Nathan is a fiddle player, tune composer, and singer-songwriter whose upbeat, soulful songs and fiddle tunes combine his experience playing bluegrass and old-time with his upbringing in celtic and traditional Canadian fiddle music. As a performer, he tours with his innovative bluegrass band The Barrel Boys, western swing outfit The Double Cuts, and his dynamic, multi-instrumental duo with Emilyn Stam.

His debut solo album, "Let It Rest, Let It Rise" was released in February of 2020. It features an exciting ensemble of brilliant Toronto musicians and a full complement of his new original material. Originally hailing from the rugged Canadian shield landscape of Northern Ontario, Nathan's evocative lyrics and melodies seem to have sprung up organically from the hillsides, echoed off the rocks, and flowed down freshwater streams to excite the ears and touch the souls of audiences across Canada.

The land we operate on is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples and is now home to many diverse Indigenous Peoples. We acknowledge the cultural injustices carried out against Indigenous Peoples in Canada, and we recognize that this land acknowledgement is only one step on the part to truth and reconciliation. We aspire to be good guests and respectful settlers in T'karonto, and we offer our respect to this land and its original inhabitants.
